— IFMA The Food Away from Home Association has announced that Peter Romeo is joining the association as Managing Editor effective immediately.

Romeo comes to the association from Informa, where he served in various capacities, beginning as an Editorial Director in 2011 and culminating in Editor-at-Large, a position he held for nine years. His past experience includes writing for Nations Restaurant News, Restaurant Business, and QSR Magazine. He has been awarded numerous Jesse H. Neal Awards, the B2B media’s equivalent of the Peabodys. Overall, he brings 46 years of journalistic experience in covering government affairs, business, innovation, entrepreneurship, employment issues and more to his new position.

“I’m excited to take on this new role with an organization dedicated to bringing together all sectors of the food-away-from-home industry and the opportunities presented across the board,” said Romeo. “It’s an exciting time to report on that ecosystem given the innovations, new operating models, and cross-industry collaborations that are changing the business—and the way America dines.”

In the newly created role of Managing Editor for the Association, he will report directly to the CEO and be responsible for leading the development of the association’s news and media platforms. Romeo will be managing the group’s editorial strategy and play a pivotal role in event development, all focused on strengthening the association’s position as a leader within the food-away-from-home industry. Romeo will leverage his extensive industry leader and influencer sources to provide members and the industry relevant business news to guide them through strategy and go-to-market planning. He’ll also report on industry events and bring forward new stories to the industry on timely topics.

“As this association continues transforming to better serve our industry, we’re committed to bringing the latest ideas and innovations to our members while also celebrating our rich legacy,” said Phil Kafarakis, IFMA The Food Away from Home Association president and CEO. “Peter has an incredible understanding of our ecosystem. Over the past four decades he has built trusted relationships with so many legends and leaders, he serves as an unofficial industry historian. With his extraordinary talent and experience, we know that he will play a critical and key role in positioning us as a premier thought leader across the industry and beyond.”
